Every now and then, I photograph a family when a child is about to graduate high school and learn that they haven’t been photographed as a family since the kids were babies. And I really feel for them, although I try to keep that to myself to avoid adding to any regret they’re already experiencing. Sometimes coordinating busy schedules for a photoshoot is that one task that just feels like too much where there are so many other things competing for our attention. As encouragement to any families out there who haven’t been photographed in a while, I thought I’d share this fun session from a family with two daughters who are in the tween years.
Pittsburgh Senior Portraits: McConnell’s Mill State Park
/by kmillerThis Saturday morning senior portrait was an awesome way to start the day. You may have noticed that I shared this senior’s family portrait session earlier this week. And it was so much fun as a photographer to do two sessions with this family in one day, both at McConnell’s Mill State Park. We started at 8 a.m. for the senior session and then came back again for the family session at 4:30 for the best lighting.
Family Portraits: Documenting Your Family During the Teen Years
/by kmillerI’m so glad this family decided to update their portraits. I don’t have teenagers of my own, but I understand from other families that I know that scheduling with teens can be crazy. But time flies and this is an equally important chapter in this family’s story.
Small Business Photography: Personal Branding Sessions
/by kmillerWhile I spend most of my time as a photographer creating portraits of babies, kids and families, I do enjoy an occasional wedding or commercial job. And this personal branding session for a Cranberry dermatologist was an uplifting start to my day. Pittsburgh Skin’s motto is “keeping Pittsburgh skin healthy” and this session with Dr. Vélez’s early morning run on the North Shore reflects her positive approach to staying healthy.

Cranberry Maternity Session: Celebrating the Change from Mrs. and Mr. to Mom and Dad
/by kmillerWhen you’re expecting, it’s natural to shift your focus to all things baby. Lots of change comes with pregnancy or adoption. And when we step back, one of the biggest changes that gets overlooked is our roles in marriage. We simply adapt to all of the change that comes with this tiny new life. And it occurred to me recently that a maternity session is not just about the physical change that is taking place, but about the transformation of a couple. And this mom- and dad-to-be really bear witness to a beautiful beginning on their journey as parents.
