Last month, I got to photograph a few sunflower sessions at a gorgeous farm field in Grove City, Pa. And I just heard there’s one more sunflower field about to bloom and sessions are limited through September 18th! If you’ve been wanting to update your family portrait, and you love sunflower fields, now’s your chance! This is also a great opportunity for senior portraits.
Working With the Sun
We started by the barn in the shade while the sun was most intense. Then we headed to the back of the sunflower field, where the setting sun is perfectly positioned behind the blooms. I learned from the farmer’s wife, that after the sunflowers get to a certain size, they stop turning toward the sun. These sunflowers were about 6 feet tall! And this farm will use them for animal feed, so they’re both form and function!
Family Portraits and A Field Trip!
This session ended up feeling more like a family field trip, with a meadow of curious cows who gathered behind us to get a closer look. And the boys loved the vintage truck that we saved for last as the sun was just below the tree line. If you’d like to schedule a sunflower session, please give me a call at 412-427-8371.
