On Tuesday, we celebrated. And I’ve just caught my breath from the whirlwind of activity. Opening a photo studio and throwing a grand opening was kind of like having a baby and a wedding all at once. And I am so thankful for all of my clients, friends and family who came out to celebrate!
Jordan Miller, my brother-in-law and photographer extraordinare, captured the party. And that’s me having a laugh about the large plastic scissors that were a prop for the ribbon cutting. They’re just so funny, kind of like clown shoes.
We had live music by Daniel Menuier on the steel drums and lovely flowers from Sencak Orthodontics. I am so blessed by local businesses like theirs who have shown support. And I’d also like to thank my family for helping in so many ways: to my father-in-law, George, for helping us move in; to my parents who hauled, painted and refinished furniture for the studio; my mom also made an amazing display of cookies with cute camera cut-out sugar cookies (everyone loved them!); and my boys for their support even though I know grand openings are boring for 7- and 9-year old boys. And a big thanks to Brad, my husband, who has endlessly offered support and encouragement.
How‘d We Get Here? It’s kind of a funny story…
In April, Brad and I celebrated our 15-year wedding anniversary and got to get away for an overnight. As we drove to our destination, I came up with an idea for how I could finally set up a studio. Brad thought the idea was a bit crazy, but I was really struggling to find a space that would work. I was going to rent a 10×30 foot storage unit and transform it into a studio and meeting space. Welcoming clients into my home for meetings was getting a little crazy. But welcoming them into my storage unit studio would have been crazier. Can you imagine me rolling up the door? Come on in!
Thank you, Brad, for encouraging me to keep looking. And last, but most importantly, I want to thank the Lord, for his provisions and timing. This beautiful space is just what I was looking for and I had a few particulars that made the search tricky. And seeing this dream come to life has me praising God for his goodness.
