One of my favorite things about being a family photographer is getting to photograph a family through the milestones. It is so much fun to see a family grow and help them to capture that growth. I first met this family for their maternity and newborn sessions. And last month, we got to document their daughter’s first birthday. It was a bit mind-blowing for me to realize that all happened during this pandemic. But these are the good things that make me so thankful that I can work and keep my clients safe.
While I am fully vaccinated, I come masked to all of my sessions and use hand sanitizer before I leave my car. And when I have a cold or learn of a possible exposure, I am quick to get a COVID test to make sure I am negative before my shoots.
When talking and shooting, I’m often in close proximity to my clients, and limit contact. With newborn sessions, I just ask the parents to make any adjustments needed, so that I don’t have to touch the baby. And with older kids through adults, I always ask before touching to adjust clothing and hair. Funny thing is, my favorite lens is a telephoto, so I’m mostly about 6 feet away anyway.
I’m so glad this family felt comfortable and that we were able to document all of this sweetness (and some sass!) This little girl has so much personality and waved to anyone that walked by. And her mom and dad are absolutely smitten, of course!
If you would like to document a special milestone in your family, I’d love to hear from you!
